Guys. I am so, so, SO excited to be a part of this awesome Halloween Project Parade with so many talented ladies. I’m going to tell you all about how I made my “spooky” owl wreath, and then be sure to check out all the other great projects and link up your latest Halloween creations (I’ll be sharing my favorites on Pinterest, Google Plus, and Facebook throughout the month)!
I decided to go all black and white for Halloween this year (with a touch of gold thrown in). I went to the dollar store to see what black and white supplies I could scoop up, and I got pretty excited when I found this cute (I mean spooky?) little black owl. I knew he would look great on a black and white Halloween wreath.
Here’s how I made it, and how you can make one too.
Start off by gathering your supplies:
- yarn (You will need quite a lot. I nearly used one skein of each color for my wreath.)
- wreath form
- hot glue gun
- owl (Dollar Tree score)
- branch (I got this years ago for a wreath I never got around to making)
- black fabric (I used a heavier weight fabric I had leftover from a previous project)
- iron-on studs (I had leftovers from my lacquered tray)
- I wanted an irregular stripe pattern, so I just kind of eyeballed it and made up the pattern as I went. If I felt like I needed more black, then I would wrap black for a while longer. Just go with it.
- If you use a straw wreath form like the one I used, I would recommend just gluing and wrapping over the plastic wrap to avoid a mess.
- Wrap with the front of the wreath form facing you so you can make sure you fill in all the gaps between strands of yarn. It’s okay if there are gaps on the back side. Really. It’s okay. 🙂
And, finished!
What I like best about this wreath is I think it has a bit of a Jack Skellington/Haunted Mansion Holiday vibe going on (If you’ve been around here before, you know I’m a slightly obsessed Disneyland fan).
Also, some of you may be thinking that I misnamed my wreath because, c’mon, what’s so spooky about it anyway? Well. Here’s what you see when you come up to my front door:
And now for the Halloween Project Parade Blog Hop & Link Party! Yay!
